CARL JAMES ‘JIMMY’ GARRETT

HAYSI — Carl James “Jimmy” Garrett age 84 of Haygar Mountain Loop, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at his residence. Born in Dickenson County, he was a son of the late Della Willis Garrett. He was of the Freewill Baptist Faith and attended Splashdam Freewill Baptist Church. He retired from General Motors and Clinchfield Coal Company. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur (Faye) Garrett, Ray (Hilda) Garrett and Rufus (Betty) Garrett; three sisters, Phyllis (Omar) Willis, Mae (Earnest) Barnett and an infant sister, Tootie.
He leaves behind his wife, Wanda Garrett; one son, Tommy (Dedra) Garrett, Irons, Mi. and daughter, Stacy G. (William) Thorpe, Haysi; three grandchildren, Chasity (John) Gouker, Elliott (Gi Gi) Duncan, Marshall (Wendy) Duncan; four great-grandchildren, Ajae, Aireonah, Natalie and Bennett, and special card playing friends, Betty Shortridge and Jeroline Compton also survive.
Funeral service was conducted 7 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2022 at Splashdam Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Sluss officiating. The family received friends at the church on Friday, January 28, 2022 after 6 p.m. prior to the service.
Entombment service was at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 29, 2022 at the Rebecca Willis Cemetery, Haysi.
Gary Willis, Louie Garrett, Benny Garrett, Donald Duncan, Marshall Duncan, Elliott Duncan, Grant Garrett and David Powers served as pallbearers. Deacons of Splashdam Freewill Baptist Church, Donnie McCowan, Steve Barton, Scott Hill and Topsy Counts served as Honorary Pallbearers.
