JOHN LOWELL BARTLEY

John Lowell Bartley of Haysi Virginia passed away August 4, 2021 at Brookdale Gaines Ranch in Austin, Tx. Lowell Bartley was the son of the late Riley Bivens Bartley and Edith Willis Bartley. Lowell attended Haysi High School where he was Co-Captain of the Varsity Basketball team and President of the Key Club. He graduated high school in 1955. After high school he briefly attended Bluefield College before transferring to Virginia Tech (Virginia Polytech Institute) in Blacksburg. He was a proud member of the Virginia Tech basketball team, member of Delta Sigma Chi, member of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers and President of the VT Engineering Club. Lowell graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in engineering in 1960.
In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his wife, Rose Bassana Bartley; three brothers, Benny, Joe and Jim Bartley. Survivors include brother, Dwight Bartley; sister, Anna (Gordon) Netherland; sister in-law, Cleta Bartley; cousins, Tom Cloer and Mary Abazio; step-daughter, Dona Bassana Johnson; step-grandsons, Jake Johnson and Nick Johnson and step-daughter, Alissa Bassana.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday August 28 at Haysi Presbyterian Church with Rev. Wayne Rogers officiating. Entombment will follow at the Bartley Family Cemetery in Haysi. Online condolences may be sent to http://www.haysifuneral.com.
