CARL EUGENE YATES

Carl Eugene Yates, age 63, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021 at his residence in Clintwood. With the exception of about four years, Eugene always called Clintwood home. Eugene was a retired Senior Special Agent with the Office of the State Inspector General, and dedicated his life from a very young age to serving the public. He was preceded in death by his father, Tommy Gene Yates.
Survivors include his mother, Norma Lee Yates of Clintwood; two sons, Kevin Yates and wife, Misty of Wise and Shan Yates and wife, Tiffany of Clintwood; one sister, Linda Howell and husband, Carmen of Kingsport, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Layton Gardner, Logan Gardner, Riley Yates, Talan Yates, Laykin Yates, Drake Yates, and Willow Yates; one very special nephew, Jedidiah Lee Yates and many loved aunts and cousins as well.
The family received friends Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Mullins Funeral Home Chapel with funeral services that followed at 7 p.m. Keith Crabtree officiated. A graveside service was held Sunday, August 22, 2021 at 2 p.m. at the Crabtree Elkins Cemetery, Longs Fork Section, Clintwood. Burial followed.
Pallbearers were sons, Kevin and Shan Yates; nephew, Jedidiah Yates; cousin, Billy Jack Crabtree; Senior Special Agent, Randy R. Cox and cousin, Scott Stanley. Honorary pallbearers were all the Law Enforcement in Southwest Virginia, D.O.C. Officers at Red Onion and Wallens Ridge State Prisons, and members of Clintwood Rescue Squad and Fire Department.
