What’s your score?
Being college ready in today’s world is more important than ever. Research demonstrates that the vast majority of new jobs being created in the next 20 years will require certificates and degrees beyond a high school-level credential, and GED® graduates need to be equipped to compete with traditional high school graduates.
The GED® Testing Service (GEDTS) reports that GED® graduates are now better prepared than ever for education and training programs. Since 2014, a higher percentage of GED® graduates are attending college programs, are enrolling more quickly, and are succeeding.
Take a look at the following statistics reported by GEDTS:
45% of GED® graduates enrolled in a college certificate or degree program within 3 years.
35% do so within one year of earning a GED® credential.
90% persist by re-enrolling from one semester to the next compared to 29% before 2014.
In order to give a better understanding of student abilities, all GED® test scores are divided into the following three levels: passing score (145-164), GED® College Ready (165-174), and GED® College Ready + Credit (175-200). Each level indicates a different range of abilities and college readiness. GED® students who attain scores on any subject test within the College Ready or College Ready + Credit score levels may be eligible for college credit or certain exemption. How does that work?
The GED® College Ready (CR) and GED® College Ready + Credit (CR+) score levels were created to help move students more quickly into and through college certificate and degree programs. Based on recommendations from the ACE (Achieving a College Education) Credit® program, students scoring at these levels have demonstrated readiness to enter credit-bearing classes, and some have even demonstrated college-level skills and knowledge.
A GED® College Ready score is a score of 165-174 on any GED® subject test. Students who score at this level should qualify for waivers from developmental education courses and from applicable placement testing. These scores are equivalent to the top 9-27% of the national average of graduating high school seniors.
A GED® College Ready + Credit score is a score of 175-200 on any GED® subject test.
Students who score at this level have demonstrated skills that could qualify them for college credit. These scores are equivalent to the top 1-8% of the national average of graduating high school seniors.
