Hoarfrost

Long Ridge resident Wayne Riner captured this photo Monday morning. Hoarfrost occurs when fog leaves a coating of white ice crystals on objects exposed to free air movement. The word ‘hoar’ comes from the old English referring to old age appearing ice crystals, like white hair or white beard.
