FAYE E CARRINGTON

Faye E. Carrington loved her family so much that not even the impact of Alzheimer disease could separate her from them. As her illness took many of her memories she never lost connection with her daughters or her grandchildren. For Faye love didn’t reside in her mind, it radiated from her heart where Alzheimer’s had no hold.
Faye E. Carrington, age 88 of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday December 20, 2020 at Mansfield Place Assisted Living. She was born June 14, 1932 in Dickenson County to the late Rev. W. Goble and Isabelle (Edwards) Rose.
She was a devout Christian having given her life to Jesus at a young age and traveling to meetings and revivals with her father and singing in church with her sister Myrtle. She was a founding member of the Mansfield Freewill Baptist Church. She loved southern gospel music and old hymns and continued to sing every word to her favorites.
In 1951 she married Mack Sutherland and in 1952 they left their home in southwest Virginia coming north to Ohio in search of work and a life not centered around the coal industry. However, no matter where she was her heart was never far from the hills of Dickenson County.
Faye was always busy and her hands never still. She was a seamstress, and enjoyed all kinds of arts and crafts including crocheting, quilting, and doll making. She loved spending time in her garden, and was a fabulous cook preparing many delicious meals for family and friends.
In 1979 she married Leroy R. Carrington. Faye worked at Westinghouse for 26 years until they closed their doors in 1990. At that time they bought a motor home and spent many years snow birding to Florida in the winter. They made many friends and wonderful memories of time spent there.
Faye’s legacy will be one of kindness and selflessness. She never wanted to be in the spotlight, but rather step back and let others shine.
Surviving are her daughters, Theresa and Roger Brokaw of Bellville, Oh., Rita Wallace of Mansfield, Oh.; step-son Leroy “Rick” and Tammy Carrington of Bowling Green, Ky.; grandchildren, Amber and John Sykes, Matthew Marsh, Brice Wallace, McKenzie and Christopher Nielsen, Stephanie Brokaw; great-grandchildren, Colton Sutherland, Briley Roston, Noah and Roslyn Marsh, and Freya Nielsen; sisters, Jewel Mullins of Bristol Tenn. and Myrtle Mullins of Clintwood; one brother, Rev. Carl and Janice Rose of Clintwood; as well as former son-in-law Ben Wallace of Mansfield, Oh. Along with many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband Mack Sutherland and present husband Leroy Carrington, as well as her sister Nina Lee Anderson.
A private service for immediate family was held on Christmas Eve at the Bellville location of Snyder Funeral home. A graveside service was held Sunday December 27 at Grace Cemetery on Nealy Ridge in Clinchco. Faye’s nephew, Rev. Paul Rose officiated.
