BERTHA GAY YATES

Bertha Gay Yates, age 82 of Old Greenbrier Road, Haysi, passed away at her daughter Emma’s home Tuesday, December 15, 2020. Born in Haysi she was a daughter of the late George Marion and Phoeby Jane Deel O’Quinn. Bertha was baptized in the Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church on October 8, 1960. She was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband David Ferl Yates and six brothers, Ray, Ferrel, Ernie, Jack, (Jash), Joe, Joel and a sister, Fay.

Survivors include daughters, Jill O’Quinn, Loretta O’Quinn, Elsie (Steve) Owens, Patricia (Gary) Deel and Emma (Jeff) Owens; a grandson, Roger; seven granddaughters, Marie, Charlotte, Crystal, Nancy, Stephanie, Samantha and Tabitha; two brothers, Willie O’Quinn of Haysi and Jimmy O’Quinn of Delaware, Oh.; two sisters, Elva Blankenship of Grundy and Susie (Lester) Yates of Haysi; 16 great-grandchildren and many nephews, nieces and friends.

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Friday, December 18, 2020 at Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Roger Coleman, Denny Deel, Terry O’Quinn and Earl Dean Yates officiating. Burial followed in the Josh Yates Cemetery, Haysi. Pallbearers were Roger Deel, Jeff Beebo Stiltner, Dalton O’Quinn, Bobby Owens, Wayne O’Quinn and John New. Honorary pallbearers were Austin New, Ethan New, Camryn Hensley, Mason Stiltner and Joshua Owens. Burial followed in the Josh Yates Cemetery, Haysi.
