ROSCOE LEE EDWARDS

Roscoe Lee Edwards, 90, of Birchleaf, passed away Friday, December 4, 2020 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon due to complications from COVID-19. Roscoe was born September 12, 1930 to Arvie and Verna Counts Edwards. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Arvie Edwards, Jr.; three sisters, Lavonnie Yates, Cotella Owens and Marie Arrington; his mother and father-in-law, Shelby and Lillie Anderson and his son-in-law, Kenny Rowlette.
Roscoe adored his wife and loved his family wholeheartedly. He had a way of making each one feel like they were his favorite. He was a faithful follower of the Primitive Baptist Church and attended as long as his health allowed. He spent 40 years working as a coal miner, a job he loved, before retiring in 1990. He loved gardening and working on the farm, bluegrass music, especially his brother Gary playing, and was widely known for his flat-footing. He was also an active member of the Haysi Kiwanis Club for twenty-five years. He enjoyed spending Thursday nights with his Kiwanis family.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Joyce Edwards; three daughters, Ann Rowlette, Mavis (Jackie) Boyd and Trina Hyden and two sons, Ronnie (Judy) Edwards and Neil (Peggy) Edwards all of Birchleaf; 13 grandchildren, Conda (David) Edwards, Delanie (Curtis) Stephenson, Crystal Boyd, Karen (Ben) Beatty, Lara (Michael) Kennedy, Shenna Edwards, Teri (Chris) Yates, Jared (Brooke) Bias, Jada (Adam) Carter, Holly (Chris) Fleming, Devin (Tamara) Edwards, Traci (Tyler) Arrington and Erin Hyden; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by one brother, Gary (Ruth) Edwards of Haysi and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Jim Duty, Noah Kim Edwards, Roger Fuller and Garnell Gilbert officiating. Burial followed in the Anderson Family Cemetery, Birchleaf. Pallbearers were grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were Eugene Kelly and members of the Haysi Kiwanis Club.
