ROGER WAYNE ‘PAPPY’ MCCOWAN

Roger Wayne “Pappy” McCowan, age 84, of Haysi, passed away Monday, November 30, 2020 at his home. Born in Dickenson County, he was a son of the late Ferd and Icy Branham McCowan. He was last employed as an equipment operator for Clinchfield Coal Company and was a member of Paw Paw Old Regular Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edgar McCowan and a brother-in-law, Robert Gilbert.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Edwards McCowan; a daughter, Darlene (Rocky) Ratliff of Haysi; two sons, Dennis MCCowan of Haysi and Larry Wayne (Jennifer) McCowan of Clintwood; grandchildren, Brady and Derek McCowan, Byron Anderson, Travis Edwards, Jarren (Tanee), Logan and Jensyn McCowan, great-grandchildren, Brionna, Hudson and Alyssa and step-grandson, Jared Ratliff; sisters, Phyllis Gilbert and Rosalie (Farris) Fleming both of Clintwood; brothers, Denver (Judy) McCowan of Il., Palmer McCowan of Fl. and Donnie McCowan of Haysi and special sister-in-law, Sonja McCowan.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Jackie Yates and Danny O’Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in Branham Cemetery, Haysi. Pallbearers will be grand-kids. Honorary pallbearers will be Carrol Turner, Carrol Hill, Buck Duty, Jr. Arrington and Hansel Edwards. The family will receive friends after 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home with an evening service at 6 p.m. with Elders Carson Wright, James Tackett and Jerry Overstreet officiating.
