JOSEPH MICHAEL SYKES

Joseph Michael Sykes age 67, of Clintwood, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Norton Community Hospital, Norton. Mike was a 1971 graduate of Clintwood High School. He worked in the coal industry for over forty years, retiring from the Federal Mine Safety Administration. Mike loved music, classic cars and animals.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerald and Rita Sykes and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Howie Red Boggs, Jr. and Naomi Mullins Boggs.

Survivors include his wife Carmelia “Mia” Sykes of Clintwood; special daughter and son, Kayla Dahley and Garrett Wade Patton; two brothers, Jerry Sykes and Pam of Roanoke and David Sykes of Manassas; two special sisters-in-law; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, October 14 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, October 15, at 1 p.m. in the Levi Cantrell Cemetery, Bold Camp Section of Pound. Joe Glenn Sluss will officiate.
