WALTER ‘ZANE’ OWENS

Walter “Zane” Owens, was born March 19, 1950 at Lick Creek in Dickenson County. He departed this life September 30, 2020 at NHC Health care in Bristol, Va. after a long illness at the age of 70. Zane was the son of the late William Walter Owens Jr. and Lavonnie Edwards Owens. Zane was the second of three sons born to this union. He was last employed by United Coal Company. Zane graduated from Haysi High School in 1969. Zane was a member of the Sulpher Springs Church of the Washington Association. He was baptized on October 20, 2006. Zane suffered with pain and health issues in his last years, several times we were told he would not make it, but God had other plans, it was not his time. Zane was loved by those who knew him. He would always joke and carry on with the nursing staff and they loved him. Zane had a smile that lit up a room and a big heart.

Zane is preceded in death by his parents, William Walter Owens Jr. and Lavonnie Edwards Owens; his maternal grandparents, Arvie Edwards Sr. and Vernie Edwards; his paternal grandparents, William Walter Owens Sr. and Elizabeth Owens.

He is survived by a daughter, Alishia Suzanne and a son Charlie. He leaves to mourn his brothers, David F. Owens (Dorothy) of Bristol and Daniel Joseph Owens of Council; nephews, Brian and Jeremiah Owens; nieces, Lisa, Kristy Jo, Julie, Mollie and Lilleigh and several great nieces and nephews; uncles, Roscoe Edwards (Joyce Nell) of Sandlick and Gary Edwards (Ruth) of Haysi and several cousins.

Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, October 2, 2020 at Sutherland Cemetery, Lick Creek with Elders Jimmy Counts and Hoey Lester and Lic. Paul Matney officiating. Friends and neighbors served as pallbearers. We will miss our beloved Zane but we know in our hearts he is at peace, no more pain and no more suffering.
