Teen Cuisine @ Home
Dickenson County Extension Office recently hosted an online program called “Teen Cuisine @ Home”. Thanks to a grant from the Walmart Foundation and National 4-H, each family received a free cooking kit full of the necessary cooking supplies, as well as a free recipe kit which included the ingredients needed for six recipes. A total of twenty-two youth signed-up to participate in Zoom meetings with 4-H Extension Agent, Kelly Rose and SNAP-Ed Program Assistant, Kristie Mullins. Topics included in this innovative program included food safety, nutrition, knife safety and skills, reading a recipe, reading a food label and the importance of being active. Their “homework” was to make a specific recipe during the week. Parents/guardians and youth reported back after completing their assignment and provided reviews of the featured dish with pictures showing the youth in the process of cooking.
