CLARA FIELDS SUTHERLAND

Clara Fields Sutherland, age 88 of Lick Creek, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2020. Born in Dickenson County, she was the daughter of the late Kemper A. and Bessie Shrader Fields. She was a member of Sandlick Presbyterian Church. Clara retired as a teacher and bus driver in Dickenson County School System at 77 with over 40 years of service. She had a passion for teaching and truly loved her students. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Fonso F. Sutherland; three children, David Grant Sutherland, Thomas Wade Sutherland and infant daughter, Jane Kathleen Sutherland; a son-in-law, Stan Hicks; brothers, Chann D. Fields and Jerry D. Fields.

Survivors include two sons, Tim F. (Robin) Sutherland and Philip K. (Jedda) Sutherland both of Haysi; one daughter, Amy Hicks of Ga.; one sister, Sula Hay of Blacksburg; grandchildren, Heath, Nick, Aaron and Michelle Sutherland, Nicole Senter and Dereck Hicks, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at the D.B. Sutherland Cemetery, Lick Creek with Pastor David Cummings officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
