Virus cases rise slowly

Dickenson County has recorded six more confirmed COVID-19 cases within a week.

As of Tuesday, the Virginia Department of Health reported a total of 54 confirmed cases since the pandemic began months ago. One week earlier, the number was 48.

The county continues to report one COVID-19-related death.

Wise County’s confirmed cases increased by more than 100 between Aug. 10 and Monday.

Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases across several months rose from 99,428 Thursday to 103,809 Tuesday, an increase of 4,381. The number of “probable” cases rose from 4,194 Thursday to 4,473, an increase of 279. During the same period, the number of confirmed deaths increased by 30 to 2,278, while the number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by four to 118.
