Not rare . . . except in beauty

by By Wayne Riner

Luna moths are not rare, but are rarely seen due to their very brief (7-10 day) adult lives and nocturnal flying time. As with all giant silk moths, the adults do not eat, and thus are not seen visiting flowers. Long Ridge resident Wayne Riner writes: ‘Take time to walk in the woods and slow down in order to look and listen to what nature is showing you. You may be surprised to find a friend who doesn’t mind sitting on your hand a moment before flying away.’
