Dozens of local businesses get small relief loans
More than 50 Dickenson County small businesses and non-profit groups have received more than $2 million so far in temporary financial relief from a federal loan program during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The U.S. Small Business Administration recently released detailed data on loans made through the Paycheck Protection Program.
That $2 million-plus only represents loans of up to $150,000.
The program has resumed accepting loan applications in response to the president signing legislation that extends it. The deadline to apply is Aug. 8.
Loans can be fully forgiven if the money is used for payroll, mortgage interest, rent and utilities. At least 60 percent must be used for payroll. The interest rate is 1 percent. Payments are deferred for six months.
