KIMBERLY PAIGE SHORT

July 07, 2020

Kimberly Paige Short was born on July 18, 1962, at the Sutherland Clinic in Clintwood and was delivered by Dr. N.C. Ratliff and Dr. Sutherland to Richman and Glenda Short. She was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes (now T1 Diabetes) in 1971. Diabetes took a toll on her health and prevented her from working for many years; however, she loved to volunteer. She served as Secretary for the Dickenson GOP, Cookie Product Manager for Girl Scout Service Unit 620 and Daisy and Brownie Mentor for Girl Scout Troop 140. She loved children and enjoyed watching them grow and learn. Kim was also an organizing member and former regent of the Sandy Basin Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a graduate of Clintwood High School Class of 1980, Mountain Empire Community College and attended Clinch Valley College. Kim worked at the D&S Supermarket, the Dickenson County Department of Social Services and Dickenson County Board of Supervisors. She was a volunteer at Long’s Fork Elementary School for many years, where she enjoyed helping students learn to read, write and do math. Kim enjoyed reading, crocheting, crossword puzzles and crafting with her nieces, nephews and Girl Scouts. She loved keeping up with family and friends through emails and Facebook. Kim was of the Baptist faith and attended George’s Fork Freewill Baptist Church throughout her lifetime.

Kim was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Burl and Amy Short, maternal grandparents, Everette and Lavern Smith, Monroe Bumgardner and Delores Stout.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her three sisters, Martha Short, Cynthia Short, Sharon Shaver and husband Terry; one brother, Joshua Evans and wife Jillian, all of Clintwood; three nieces, Tiara Shaver, Alivia Evans and Anistyn Evans; two nephews, Wyatt Shaver and Morgan Shaver; two special cousins, Dr. Samantha Smith of Charlottesville and Kristin Smith of Clintwood.
