Apple grafting root-stock available

by Submitted by Brad Mullins Extension Agent

The Dickenson County Extension Office has a limited supply of apple root-stock available.

Apple tree grafting is one method to preserve older, lesser-known varieties of apple trees that are not readily available for purchase. Apple trees grown from seed are not the same variety as the tree on which the seed developed. Therefore, to produce more trees of a variety the trees must be budded or grafted onto another apple tree.

If you would like to purchase root-stock, they are available for $1 each. Also, Brad Mullins, Extension Agent will graft those for you, if you like. For $1, you can receive a grafted apple tree, ready to plant. Several varieties are available, including; Summer Rambo, Cortland, Gala, Golden Delicious, Yellow Transparent, Seek No Further, Mountain Boomer, Winesap, Honeycrisp, Lodi, Larry, Winter Banana, Roman Beauty, Wolf River and Ginger Gold.
If you would like to purchase apple root-stock or grafted trees, this will need to be scheduled ahead of time. Please call the Dickenson County Extension Office at 926-4605.
