OLIVER MORGAN ‘BRUZ’ ANDERSON

Oliver Morgan “Bruz” Anderson, age 79, of Haysi, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Norton Community Hospital, Norton. Born in Dickenson County he was a son of the late Aubrey and Audrey Bowman Anderson. He was 1960 graduate of Haysi High School, a retired coal miner/operator and trucker, learning to drive a coal truck for his father at the age of fourteen. Bruz worked at Splashdam Shaft/Clinchfield Coal Company and other coal companies and was also co-owner of Morgan Mining. Bruz also worked at John Flannagan Dam on the flood gate. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jessie James Anderson and a sister, Shelby Jean Amos.
Survivors include two sons, Morgan Scott Anderson of Birchleaf and Clay Woods of Abingdon; a daughter, Anne Caroline Anderson of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandsons, Wesley Roark, Cody Anderson and Dalton Anderson; a brother, Ricky Anderson of Haysi; four sisters, Betty (R.C.) Baumgardner of Abingdon, Gayle (Terry) Barton, Brenda Powers and Rebecca Arrington all of Haysi, five nephews and two nieces.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Haysi Funeral Home with Jody Breeding officiating. Burial followed in the Anderson Cemetery, Birchleaf. Pallbearers were grandsons, Wesley Roark, Cody Anderson and Dalton Anderson and nephews, Keith Amos, John Amos, James Amos, Anthony Sutherland and Bobby Baumgardner. Honorary pallbearers were Clay Woods, R.C. Baumgardner, Jim Sutherland and Terry Barton. The family received friends from 5 p.m.- 7 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday prior to an evening service at 7 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
