Eugene Blair believed to be the first Dickenson County man to lose his life in World War II

The USS Eugene Blair, a destroyer-escort, was named for Dickenson County native, Eugene Blair. Blair was killed on February 19, 1942. It is believed that he was the first casualty of WWII from Dickenson County. This photo was published in the May 15, 1953 issue of an unidentified Clintwood newspaper.
