HAZEL O’QUINN HACKNEY

Hazel O’Quinn Hackney, age 78 of Hackney Ridge, Birchleaf, passed away Friday, January 31, 2020 at Pikeville Medical Center. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Corbett and Peggy Conaway O’Quinn. She was a homemaker and member of Mountain View Old Regular Baptist Church since September 28, 1980. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Darlene Church and Dora Church and brothers, Vada, Jerry, Harlen and Teddy O’Quinn; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Thomas Hackney; a son-in-law, Denver O’Quinn and a great-granddaughter, Brooke Woods.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Cledith Eugene Hackney; daughters, Kitty (Junior) Deel, Tammy (Ron) Shortridge and Sherry O’Quin; a son, Eugene (Becky) Hackney; four sisters, Mazie Wood, Helen (Roger) Rose, Kathy (Ronnie) Sykes and Betsy Rasnake; two brothers, Jones O’Quinn and Jackie O’Quinn, eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Mountain View Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Andy Deel, Mark Justice, Aven Viers, Denny Deel, Larry Puckett, and Jerry Overstreet officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery, Rakes Ridge. Pallbearers will be Jason Deel, Justin Deel, Christopher O’Quin, Nicholas O’Quin, Aarron Mullin, Jeremy Honaker, Kraig Salomon and Benny Church. The family received friends after 6 p.m. on Monday, February 3, and Tuesday, February 4, where an evening service was held at 7 p.m. both nights at the church.
