IRA GOTTE JR. ‘THUMPER’

Ira Gotte Jr. “Thumper”, age 39 of the Lake Road, Clintwood, passed away Friday, December 27, 2019 at Pikeville Medical Center. Born in Abingdon, he was a son of Ira and Irene Yates Gotte. He was of the Baptist faith, was a 1999 graduate of Haysi High school and member of the HHS marching band, choir, and golf team. He had worked at Hardees and also was a little league umpire. Thumper was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Fred and Vina Yates and paternal grandparents, Herbert and Percila Gotte.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister; Deana (John) Whitner of Haysi; nieces, Faith Whitner (Michael Coffman), Jerri Whitner (Blake Gullett) and Addison Whitner (Sam Oh) of Haysi and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were conducted 7 p.m. Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Haysi Funeral Home with John Whitner and Doug Smith officiating. Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Monday, December 30 at the Logan and Fred Yates Cemetery, Haysi. Pallbearers were Buck Yates, Luke Yates, Chris Yates, Bear Mullins, Russell Lance Jr., John Whitner, Wayne O’Quinn and Wes O’Quinn. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Huff and District 11 umpires, Faith, Jerri, and Addison Whitner. A visitation was held Sunday starting at 5 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
