CECIL EDWARDS

Cecil Edwards, age 79, of Clinchco, was born on September 3, 1940 and was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County. He loved his family and was quick to help anyone that needed him. His favorite pastimes were woodworking and gardening. He loved making wooden toys and puzzles for his grandkids. He was proud to have been a coal miner for 39 years and loved to tell stories from his time in the mines. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith and loved going to church, especially memorial meetings at Nathan Edwards Cemetery. Cecil was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Esther; his daughter, Rita; three brothers, Robert, Claudie, and Tivis Edwards and three sisters, Maudie Edwards, Alpharee Edwards, and Pearl Lyall. He was the son of the late Russell and Evony Edwards.
Survivors include his son, Wayne (Brenda) Edwards of Clinchco; two daughters. Joanne (Bruce) Woods of Grundy and Rebecca (Munroe) Mullins of Clinchco; a sister, Roxie (Dan) Brooks of Haysi; five grandchildren, Derek Edwards of Clinchco, Tesia (Chris) Meade of Clintwood, Ethan (Ashley) Mullins of Clinchco, Samantha (Jonas) Ringl of Lexington, Ky., and Donavan Turner of Clintwood, and a great-granddaughter, Kinsley Mullins.
Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Jim Duty, Garnell Gilbert, and Roger Fuller officiating. Burial followed in the Nathan Edwards Cemetery, Clinchco. Family and friends served as pallbearers. The family received friends after 6 p.m. on Monday, December 16 where an evening service was held at 7 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
