Boards reschedule month’s meetings
Dickenson County School Board and Dickenson County Board of Supervisors have rescheduled the dates of their respective meetings for December.
The school board reset its meeting to Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 5 p.m. at the central office.
Supervisors will meet Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 6 p.m. The board meets in the second floor conference room of the Dickenson Center for Education and Research.
Both boards took action at their November meetings.
Supervisors, in addition, set a budget amendment public hearing just prior to the beginning of their regular meeting that night. The board will convene at 5:50 p.m. for that purpose.
State law requires counties to hold public hearings if their budgets exceed a 1 percent difference in the general fund balance over what was originally adopted. County Administrator David Moore pointed to grant funding and to a list of expenditures, including completion of the new roof for Clintwood Elementary School, as having triggered the need for the hearing.
Newly elected members to the board of supervisors and to the school board have been invited to a session, also on Dec. 16, that will introduce them to the school division's budgeting process, Superintendent Haydee Robinson told the school board at its November meeting. Finance Director Larry Barton will lead the workshop. Robinson said they have heard back from several of the members-elect who will take office in January who are interested in attending.
