complications from black lung disease. He was a lifelong resident of Clintwood and a retired coal miner. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Reed was of the Christian faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mazie Swindall Reed; brother, Ance Reed; mother-in law, Opal Dutton and brother-in law, Paul Dutton; step-daughter, Jessica Bolling.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Dutton Reed of Clintwood; son, Douglas Reed and Deirdra of Clintwood; daughters, Carlotta Hawkins and Ross of Clintwood, Rita Ramey and Richard of Clintwood, Regina Patterson and Bo of Clinchco; brothers, Blaine Reed and Doris of Pound and Lewis Reed of Norton; sisters, Juanita Blevins of Coeburn, Buretta Farmer and Randy of Clintwood, Cheryl Fleming and Ronald of Clintwood; eleven grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; step-son, Waylon Bolling.
Visitation was on Friday, November 1, in the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel from 5 p.m. until time of song service at 7 p.m. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at 1 p.m., at the funeral home, with Lester Mullins officiating. Burial followed in the Sowards Cemetery, Flemingtown Community. Grandsons and sons-in law served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were brothers-in-law.
