Worked as a heavy equipment operator and explosive technician for about 25 years and was featured in Coal Age Magazine for innovative cost cutting techniques with explosives. Certified Surface Mine Forman: Virginia, Kentucky and West Virginia. Certified Explosive Technician: Virginia, Kentucky and West Virginia. Blast Consultant and Blast Coordinator in West Virginia. Certified EMT in Virginia and a Certified First Responder in Kentucky.
 
• Past Elected or Appointed Positions: 
Past member of the Dickenson Co. Electoral Board; 
Past Vice President and President of The Society of Explosive Engineers. (Appalachia Chapter); 
Past Chairman and Board Member of Cumberland Plateau Regional Waste Management Authority for eight years. 
Served on The Dickenson Center For Education and Research for eight years. 
Served on The Dickenson Co. Planning Commission for eight  years. Also served on The Breaks Regional Airport Authority, the Flanagan Authority, the Coalfield Economic Development Authority for eight years (VCEDA), the Board of Directors for The Ralph Stanley Museum.
From 2008-2012 and 2014, chairman for the Dickenson County Board of Supervisors. 
Past Vice President and President of The Clintwood Lions Club; appointed Past Chairman of 24-F Region 1-Zone 1 For Lions International, appointed Past Regional Chairman of 24-F, Region 1-Zone 1, Zone 2 and Zone 3; elected 2007 as the First Ever 24-F Vice District Governor for Lions Southwest Virginia; Elected in 2008 as the first and only District Governor for Lions International from Dickenson County over lower 13 counties of Southwest Virginia. Elected 2008 as Vice Council of Governors over all six Districts in the Commonwealth of Virginia; 2009 Past District Governor for 24-F For Lions International.
 Currently serve as chairman of the board for the Clintwood Rescue Squad, serve on The Dickenson County Special Education and Advisory Board, serve as Governor’s Appointee to Virginia Gas and Oil  Board. Also serve on the Board of the Dickenson County Social Services Board
 •  Civic, other activities: Member of The Clintwood Baptist Church, Clintwood Lions Club andDickenson County Historical Society. 
Worked with RAM each year except two times since its beginning in 1999. Worked with Kids Fishing Day for about 15 years. Worked with our Special Needs Kids at “I Can Day”, for free bricks to brick the Roy Mc Mullins Field House at Ralph Cummins Stadium and with the Energy Expo and Mine Rescue Competition. 
Received the Clintwood High School Distinguished Service Award and the Lonesome Pine District Coaches Association Distinguished Service Award.
Received local, state and international recognition from Lions International for service to my Community.
Received The Clintwood Kiwanis Distinguished Service Award for service to our community and to the children of our area. As a Lions Club Member that was a special award.
