As part of the annual Sophie’s Drive for Life, Sophie Fleming helped deliver nearly 160 Halloween buckets filled with treats last week to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital affiliate clinic in Johnson City, Tennessee. Sophie, a Clintwood resident and second grader at J.W. Adams Elementary School in Pound, was diagnosed at just 6 months old with neuroblastoma, a cancer of the sympathetic nervous system that affects one in every 100,000 children. She has been cancer free for nearly seven years, and her mother, Myranda Fleming, launched Sophie’s Drive for Life to raise money for cancer research and treatment soon after Sophie’s diagnosis. Sophie and her sister Lylah helped hand deliver the baskets, which will be given to children at the clinic while taking treatments or when they are admitted.
