Jeanne Shannon stands on the porch of old house, located where Camp Jacob is now, some time in the 1940s. She wears her ‘nurse’s dress’ made by Goldie Fleming, a neighbor who did sewing for her mother. At the time, Shannon says, she was sure she wanted to be a nurse when she grew up — when in fact it was only the ‘glamour’ of the nurse uniform that appealed to her. She is holding the last doll she ever had, whose name was Magnolia Jane, bought by her father in Clintwood.
