Five deaths, 35 new cases

Local COVID-19 fatalities keep climbing.

Dickenson County reported 35 new COVID-19 cases between Jan. 2 and Tuesday.

According to the Virginia Department of Health, the county’s total number of cases since the pandemic began increased from 5,504 to 5,539 in one week.

The county’s number of COVID-19-related deaths increased by five, from 77 to 82.

Nearby, Buchanan County’s total number of cases increased by 77 to 6,928 during the same period. Russell County’s total case count increased by 45 to 10,707. Wise County’s case count increased by 49 to 15,686.
