DONALD ‘DONNIE’ WAYNE RIFE

Donald Wayne Rife, “Donnie” age 69, passed away Friday, December 08. 2023 at Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, Tenn. Donnie was a 1972 graduate of Clintwood High School and attended Carson Newman College. He worked as a surface coal miner. Donnie was a member of Lions Club of American for over 30 years, serving as governor and president. He was a member of several boards including the Dickenson County Board of Supervisors, VCEDA Board, Cumberland Plateau and Virginia Oil and Gas Board. Donnie worked with numerous Dickenson County charitable organizations including the Health Wagon and Clintwood Rescue Squad, where he served as chairman of the board. Donnie loved time spent with his wife, community events, golfing and family.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lillian Mullins Rife; brothers, Robert, Bobby, and Buddy Lee Rife; his sister, Judy Daley and husband Jim and sister-in-law, Nicole Rife.
Survivors include his loving wife of 43 years, Doris McCoy Rife of Clintwood; brothers, Gene Rife of Clintwood, Danny Rife and wife Janice of Clintwood, Doug Rife and wife Michelle of Tazewell; sisters, Brenda Stanley and husband Pete Ruchlewicz of Arlington, Phyllis Green and husband Michael of Summerville, SC and Patsy Baker and husband Larry of Clintwood; seven nieces and eight nephews; numerous other relatives, friends and his loving McCoy family.
Visitation began Tuesday, December 12, 11 a.m. at Clintwood Baptist Church. Services began at 1 p.m. with Dustin Rife officiating. Burial followed at Phipps Memorial Cemetery, Clintwood. Serving as pallbearers were nephews. Honorary pallbearers were Donnie Ratliff, Dr. Craig Graul, Brian Ison, T.J. Fryatt, Brad Fleming, Joe Fuller, Ebb Mullins, Ron Kendrick, David Scearce, Town of Clintwood’s mayor, council members and employees, Clintwood Lions Club, Clintwood Rescue and Fire Departments.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Clintwood Lions Club, Clintwood Rescue and Clintwood Fire Department. Online condolences may be sent to family at www.clintwoodfuneralhome.com.
