Heroes stand in hero’s place

Last Friday was Ridgeview High School senior night at the football game. The last girl to be announced was Lauren Wood, according to Sports Editor Kelley Pearson. Wood’s father, the late Haysi fire chief Rocky Wood, died early this year on duty as a state wildland firefighter. After Wood’s family took the field, they were joined by a crowd of first responders, who brought her a rose and stood with her in Rocky’s absence, Pearson noted. CRYSTAL COUNTS PHOTO
