TEDDY BAILEY

Teddy Bailey, 80, went to be with the Lord on Saturday,September 23, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Teddy was born September 15, 1943 to the late Basil and Altia Owens Bailey in Haysi. Upon graduating Haysi High School he obtained his chemistry degree from East Tennessee State University. He taught for one year at Council High School. Teddy then began his political career in which he served as the Circuit Court Clerk for Dickenson County for a consecutive 24 years. He later served on the Board of Supervisors in Dickenson County and worked as a legal assistant for Henry Vanover. During his lifetime he also served on the Board of Visitors for Radford University, Board of Trustees for BB&T Bank, was a member of the Kiwanis Club, and diligently served his community in a variety of other positions. He was a true entrepreneur over his years, owning and operating Haysi Pro Hardware and Furniture Store with his wife, and several coal mines with his brothers.
Including his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Monroe Bailey, Jake Bailey and Aaron Bailey and one sister, Mildred Gravel.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Sheila Edwards Bailey; two sons, Jody Bailey and wife Sherry, Jonathan Bailey and wife Michelle and daughter, Holly Thomas and husband Tony; three brothers, Dempsey Bailey, Denver Bailey and wife Bonnie, and Toby Bailey and wife Carolyn; one sister, Betty Deel; eight grandchildren, Tyler Bailey and wife Caitlin, Zachary Bailey and wife Brianna, Teddi Garrick and husband JT, Raegan Snapp and husband Mitchell, Alex Wetherill and husband David, Jodi-Lee Sample and husband Brandon, Anthony Thomas, and Lauren Little and husband Noah; seven great-grandchildren; Rhett, Gray, Beau, Beckett, Smith Bailey, Mac Garrick, and Hazel Snapp; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held for family and friends on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Elkhorn City, Ky. A funeral service followed at 1 p.m. with Elder Steve Lyall officiating. A committal service will follow to Bailey Family Cemetery in Haysi.
