LILLIE VIRGINIA EPLING

Lillie Virginia Epling, age 95, passed away September 3, 2023. She was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County, and attended Sullivan Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church. She worked many years for the county school system and was one of the biggest fans of the Haysi Tigers. She was also a delegate and strong supporter of the Republican party and worked on many campaigns over the years. She loved her family fiercely and was so proud of all of them. She always had a smile for everyone she met.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Gerald T “Fly” Epling; parents, Ira Randall Sullivan and Emily Jane Barton Sullivan; brothers, Walter, Morgan, Rosevelt, Charlie and Curtis Sullivan; sisters, Ruth, Hattie, Maggie, Edna, Vicey, Barbara and Berthie. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Alice Darlene Epling Rasnick; son in-law, Fayne Rasnick, and son in-law, Danny Lester.
Survivors include one son, Gerald Epling, Jr (Missy); six grandchildren, Will (Sharon) Lester, Joshua (Jessica) Rasnick, Travis (Kristi) Rasnick, Jonas Rasnick, Leslie (Marty) Worsham and Gerald Trey Epling; thirteen great-grandchildren, Devin, Kayli and Chase Hall, Alexa and Walker Lester, Jacob, Jocelyn and Josiah Rasnick, Elijah and Noah Rasnick, Jaxon and Allie Rasnick and Winston Worsham; and six great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her special friend Ronald Tiller, who she always called her other son.
The family would also like to thank John O’quinn and Dean and Dewey Sullivan for all they did for her these last few years.
A Funeral service was held 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Haysi Funeral Home with Jeff Tiller officiating. Graveside service was conducted, 11 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2023 in the Clinard Belcher Cemetery, Haysi. Pallbearers were great-grandsons, Devin and Chase Hall, Walker, Elijah, Noah, Jaxon, Jacob and Josiah Rasnick, Trey Epling and Winston Worsham. Honorary pallbearers were Kennith Branham, Jason Edwards, Dewey Sullivan, John O’quinn, Johnny Branham and Ronald Tiller. The family received friends after 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday September 6, 2023, at the funeral home prior to the funeral service. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
