BILLY WAYNE YATES

Billy Wayne Yates passed away August 22, 2023, at the age of 74, at Holston Valley Medical Center, with his family by his side. Mr. Yates was a member of Little Hope Old Regular Baptist Church for over 30 years and a member of UMWA Local 7170.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tilden and Louannie Yates; first wife, Kathy Conaway Yates; sisters, Sylvia Jean Yates, and Margaret Deel; brothers, Jerry Yates, Troy Yates and Herman Yates; nephew, Greg Deel; brothers in-law, Carter Owens, Bruce Deel and Huley Yates.

Mr. Yates is survived by his wife of 26 years, Geraldine Yates; sons, Terry (Debbie) Yates, Patrick (Tonya) Stanley; daughter, Delena (Bill) Robinson; grandchildren, Jordan Fryatt, Caitlyn Yates, Addison Stanley, Gavin Stanley, Billy Robinson and Telena (Wes) Mullins; great-grandchildren, Peyton and Owen Robinson, Ava and Wyatt Mullins; brothers, Lonnie (Fayger) Yates, Danny (Margie) Yates; sisters, Sadie (Auty) Deel, Ponzella Owens and Brenda (Jack) Yates; sisters in-law, Joyce Yates, Sue Yates, Evonne “Cookie” Yates, Linda (Russ) Lockhart and Rhonda (Randy) Ramey; along with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Friday, August 25, 2023 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel, with services following at 7 p.m. Funeral service was Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 11 a.m. with burial following at G.W. Yates Cemetery. Elders Terry Hall, Earl Dean Yates, Mark Justice, Roger Coleman and Freddy Murphy officiated. Pallbearers were Scott Deel, Michael Deel, Kevin Yates, Bobby Steinhauser, Mark Deel and Patrick Stanley. Honorary pallbearers are Bill Robinson, Terry Yates, Jordan Fryatt and Gavin Stanley.
