ROY SANDY FLEMING

Roy S. Fleming (Sandy) was born December 10, 1946 in Jenkins, Ky. He was the son of Roy and Burbridge Brown Fleming. Sandy, as he was known to family and friends, graduated from Clintwood High School in 1965. He was an outstanding football player having set single season school records for receiving yards and receptions that stood for years. He was a hard working man with 30 years in the coal mines which resulted in him having black lung. After leaving the coal industry, he went to work as a Correctional Officer at Red Onion State Prison where he retired after 10 years of service.
He was an avid Harley Rider covering all but 8 states in the lower 48. He had to give up riding as his health declined. He loved to fish and just spending time on the water made him happy.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wilhelmina (Willie) Fleming; son, Todd and wife Tina; daughter, Tanya Lynn Fleming; 4 grandchildren, Morgan Meade, Hank Fleming, Hayden Fleming and Cadence Covell; 2 sisters, Kathy Mullins and Phyllis Kiser. Also, several nieces and nephews. Sandy will be missed and forever in our hearts.
A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday July 26, 2023. Family will receive friends at 5 p.m. with services at 7 p.m. with Clergymen Mike Powers officiating at Mullins Funeral Home Chapel.
