ROY DEEL

Roy was born October 30, 1925 in Buchanan County during a massive snowstorm. He passed this world on February 3, 2023, making his stay on earth 97 years and 3 months.

He was a son of the late Richard and Ida Mae (Clevinger) Deel. Roy was a WWII Navy Veteran and was very proud of his service to our country. He held many jobs over the years, but was best known as the kind, compassionate school teacher, Mr. Deel. He was also a member of Tivis Old Regular Baptist Church and was a faithful Christian.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Plina (O’quinn) Deel; a daughter, Mary Sue Rice; a son-in-law, Barry Rice; a grandson, B.J. Rice; a granddaughter, Jennifer Rose, and daughter-in-law, Mary Belle Deel. He is also preceded in death by sisters Louanna Fuller and Laurie Deel, and brothers, Ray Deel, Lee Deel, and David Deel.

He is survived by his older brother, Larkin (Swanee) Deel of Grundy and sisters, Melvina Deel of Richlands and Geneva Deel of Greenbriar. He is also survived by his children, Roger (Shirley) Deel of Bristol; Jimmy (Deborah) Deel of Vansant; Kathy (Carter) Harrison of Clinchco, and Cindy (Denver) Stiltner of Haysi and 9 grandchildren, Roy Roger (Penny) Deel, Angela Ruth Deel, Jason (Tonya) Deel, Jimmy Wayne Deel II, Tracy (Mark) Owens, Beth (David) Mullins, Brittany Harrison, Andrew (Angel) Stiltner, and Mary Catherine Stiltner. Roy also had 11 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and one on the way.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, February 7 at 11 a.m. at Haysi Funeral Home with Brother Rick Mullins officiating. Grandsons and great-grandsons served as pallbearers.  Burial followed at Blankenship Cemetery. The family received friends after 6 p.m. on Monday, February 6 where an evening service was held at 7 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
