BETTY JEAN DEEL

Betty Jean Deel, age 82 of Big Ridge Road passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at her home. Born in Dickenson County she was the daughter of the late Ebb and Eura Blankenship Fuller. She was a Haysi High School graduate, was a former bookkeeper for Haysi Hardware, Newberry Supermarket and Crabtree Comfort Control and was a member of Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse James Deel; her stepson, Michael Deel; great-grandson, Hayden; one sister, Sarah Deel and nine brothers, Jerry, Clyde, Claude, Donald, Herbie, Foster, Monroe, Perry, and Buck.

Survivors include two daughters, Bernadette (Jeffrey) Mullins, Clintwood, and Patricia Fields, Dryden; two sons, Hillard (Janet) Deel of Virginia and William Deel, Clintwood; three step-sons, Johnie (Christine) Oquin, Haysi, Jerry (Joan) Deel Birchleaf, and Otis Deel of Vansant; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and two sisters, Roxie Hobbs and Susie Fuller, both of Florida.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders, Roger Coleman, Mark Justice and Denny Deel officiating. Burial followed in the Blankenship Cemetery, Haysi.  Family and friends served as pallbearers. The family received friends after 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the funeral home where an evening service was held at 7 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
