GAYNELL D. COUNTS

Gaynell D. Counts, age 90 of Dark Hollow, passed away Friday, January 6, 2023 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands. Born in Dickenson County, she was a daughter of the late Feddie and Prince Edwards Deel. She was a homemaker and of the Primitive Baptist Faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene “Gene” Counts, and a brother, James Deel.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Counts of Haysi and Jimmy (Sherry) Counts of Haysi; a daughter, Rhonda (Kenny) Childress of Haysi; grandchildren, Ron Jr. (Beth) Counts, Terry (Stephanie) Counts, Matthew (Bridgette) Childress, Craig (Rachel) Childress, Austin Counts, Kevin (Alisha) Mullins and Amanda (Chris) Honaker, 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Buford Deel, several nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law, Mildred Deel.

Funeral services were conducted 7 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2023 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Jim Duty, Noah Kim Edwards, and Roger Fuller officiating. The family received friends after 6 p.m. on Monday, prior to the funeral service. A graveside service was held 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood.
