SHEILA LORRAINE BROWN

Sheila Lorraine Brown age 77, passed away Sunday December 25, 2022 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was born Christmas eve of 1945, the daughter of Ralph Conley and Juanita Dickenson Brown, in Appalachia. After the passing of her father the family moved to Whitesburg, KY where she was a graduate of Whitesburg High School (class of ‘64). She attended Midway Junior College & later earned her B.S. degree in Business Administration from Berea College (class of ‘68). At Berea she met her beloved husband of 54 years Roger Brown. They moved to Clintwood where she taught school for over 30 years with only one break for time spent with her husband during basic training at Fort Gordon, GA. She taught at Haysi, worked with Dickenson County Vocational School GED program, then taught business and keyboarding classes at Clintwood High from 1974-2000. Loved by her students, she provided a caring and sympathetic listening ear. Baptized at age 13, she was a Christian for many years, attending Whitesburg First Baptist Church and later a member of Valley View Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed vacations at the beach, reading, coloring, music and singing with church choir, and time with family and pets.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Carol Brown Close, stepfather Earl Profitt, sisters-in-law, Phyllis Ann Brown and Betty Brown.
Survivors include husband Roger Lee Brown; one daughter, Deanna Brown and Sean; sister, Helen Doris Miller and Charles; brother-in-law, Dee Brown and Ruth; nephews, Calvin Ross Miller, Benjamin Miller and Samantha, and Scott Yancy and Tina, along with a host of other relatives and very special friends, and her pet companion Princess. The family would like to thank caregiver Melinda Colley and all who gave support during this difficult time.
Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m. Friday at Clintwood Funeral Home with Pastors Lynn Vanover, Kelly Fleming and Lester Mullins. Burial followed at the Dock P. Mullins Cemetery, Wolfe Pen Road Clintwood. Pallbearers were family and friends. The family received friends Thursday, December 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Valley View Free Will Baptist Church PO box 594 Clintwood, Va., 24228.
