Katie Louise Yates, age 83 of Big Ridge Road, passed away August 29,2022 at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon. Born in Buchanan County she was the daughter of the late Edward and Virginia Blankenship Bailey. She was a member of Little Sarah Old Regular Baptist Church and was last employed as a cashier at a grocery store.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Trinkle Yates and a sister, Priscilla Deel.

Survivors include four daughters, Christine Shortridge, Abingdon, Fonda Owens, LaPorte, In., Pamela (Mike) Owens, Chilhowie and Jeannie (Mike) Edwards, Lebanon; six grandchildren, three step grandchildren, several great- grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Emmal (Carl) Blankenship, Lebanon, Geneva Willis, Iron Station, NC, and one brother, Steve (Rita) Bailey, Haysi, also survive.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders, Roger Coleman, Denny Deel, Mark Justice and Earl Dean Yates officiating.  Burial followed in the Yates Cemetery, Haysi. Family and friends served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer was Cain Yates. The family received friends after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at the funeral home where an evening service was conducted at 6 p.m. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
