LAURA JANE WOOD VIERS

Laura Jane Wood Viers, age 94 of Backbone Ridge, passed away peacefully at home on Friday June 3, 2022 surrounded by her family.  Born on May 1, 1928, she was the daughter of Harrison and Judy Viers Wood.  She was a member of Little Sarah Old Regular Baptist Church for over 40 years.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Pridemore Viers; seven brothers, Robert, Ayers, Toy, Swanson, Andy, Englin, and Elmer; her sister, Pearl Wood and son-in-law, Ronny Turner.

She is survived by her two daughters, Gloria Turner and Charlotte (Gilmer) Childress of Haysi; one granddaughter, Heather (Mark) Blair of Whitesburg, Ky.; one grandson, Jordan Childress (Jessica) of Clemmons, NC; one great-granddaughter Kaitlyn Davis (Kris) of Wise; two step great-grandchildren, Zane (Whitney) Blair and Morgan Blair; one step great-great-grandchild, Atlas Blair and one sister, Gertrude Owens of Abingdon.

Funeral services were conducted 7 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Roger Coleman, Earl Dean Yates, and Mark Justice officiating.  Graveside services were conducted 11 a.m. Monday, June 6 in the R.D. Viers Cemetery on Backbone Ridge. Pallbearers were Gilmer Childress, Jordan Childress, Donald Viers, Keith Woods, Kent Woods, Mark Blair, Zane Blair and Kennith Turner. Honorary pallbearers were members of Little Sarah Church.  The family received friends after 6 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the funeral service at 7 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Little Sarah Church 1457 Backbone Ridge Haysi, Va., 24256 in Laura’s memory.
