Johnny Alvin Stanley was born September 8, 1960. He was the eldest son of Edmon and Sally Stanley. He died April 18, 2022 in Holston Valley Hospital, Kingsport, Tn. at age 61.
Johnny was born deaf and mute with a quarter-size hole in his heart. He received one of the first open heart surgeries at the Medical College of Virginia in 1968. He graduated from the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Staunton in 1980.
He worked for 30 years as a custodian at Clintwood Elementary School where he was loved by students, teachers and staff.

Johnny is survived by his father, Edmon Stanley; sister, Onedah Stanley; brothers, Farrell and Anthony Stanley; uncles, Jerry (Linda) Stanley, Danny (Dresden) Stanley, Roger (Diann) Puckett and Joseph Lynn Puckett; aunts, Rosie Belcher, Gardenia Stanley, Bea Leighton, Peggy Brooks, Arlene Puckett, Betty Puckett, Bonnie (Dan) Runions, Pam Puckett, Becky (Dean) Woods, and Johnnie Belinda (Clinton) Thompson. He leaves behind numerous loving Puckett and Stanley cousins and a multitude of friends at Valley View.

Johnny was preceded in death by his mother, Sally Stanley; grandparents, Alvin and Oma Stanley and Johnny and Bertha Puckett; uncles, Walter Gray, Freddie, Cecil, Joe and Jimmy and aunts, Lois, Glenda, Gay and Josephine. Cousins: Michael, Philip, Sandra, Wesley and Erin Ruth.

Visitation was Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 1 p.m. with a service that followed at 2 p.m. Due to Covid, both visitation and service was held outdoors at the Alvin Stanley Family Cemetery at 402 A J Stanley Rd, Clintwood. Pastors Lynn Vanover and Kelly Fleming officiated.

Pallbearers were Bobby Hammons, Chris, John, Mark, Ricky, Jerry Dee and Lucas Stanley. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Large, Johnny Branham, Walter Bryant, Clyde Hill, A C Blevins, Danny and Jerry Stanley, Roger and Joseph Puckett, Dean Woods, Dan Runions, Clinton Thompson, Jimmy Dean Stanley, Shanghai and Christian Nickles, Greg Dotson, Tommy Childress, and both of Valley View’s Robert Stanleys.
