RUBY GAY (owens) COLLEY

Ruby Gay (Owens) Colley, age 93, passed away Friday, April 1, 2022, at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn. Born in Bucu, she was the daughter of Ross and Bessie Smith Owens. She spent most of her life in Dickenson County and attended school in Duty and Trammel. She attended Duty View Primitive Baptist Church. Ruby loved gardening, being outdoors, and social gatherings with friends and family. She and her husband owned and operated several restaurants in the Haysi area.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Clyde Colley; four sisters, Mazie Owens, Delphia Owens, Dixie Gilbert and Elsie Flint; five brothers, Clifford, Gerald, Garmon, Bernard and Utah Owens.
Survivors include three children, Melinda (Buddy) Wallen, Nancy Pritchard, and Kenneth Colley; three granddaughters, Stephanie (Marc) Zbinden, Brooke Owens, and Britt Wallen; four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Ashley, Jacob and William Zbinden; seven special nieces and nephews who considered her “Mamaw Ruby”, Mona Turner, Shane Turner, Jayde Sutherland, Connor Sutherland, Chelsie, Gavin and little Matti Moore who she loved dearly; a very special friend Tennessee Kendrick and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 8, at Haysi Funeral Home with Elder Jim Duty and Robert Hill officiating. Nephews Shane Turner, Chris Gilbert, Randal Gilbert, Zach Holland, Michael Sutherland and Dustin Moore will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. on Friday prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in the Phipps Cemetery in Clintwood.
