VERA WILLIS OWENS

Vera Willis Owens, age 91, of Haysi, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. She was a daughter of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Viola (Jones) Willis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Wiley Owens, Jr.; infant sisters, Alfrieda and Cindy; brothers, Rickard Willis, Duster Willis, Bernard (Rosemary) Willis and Lewis Owens; son in-law, Gary Tackett, and granddaughter, Lindsay Duffy and her husband, John.

She is survived by her daughters, Aline Tackett and Melissa (Walter) Belcher; grandchildren, Garrick (Katie) Tackett and Lauryn Viola Belcher; great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Guilianna, Gabriel, Genna, George and Gentrie Tackett and Emmeryn Duffy; sisters in-law, Barbara Owens and Sue Willis; a niece, Doris Lindholm, who was like a sister to her and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Vera served God as a faithful member of the Big Ridge Presbyterian Church. Her door was always open, and she was known for showing hospitality and ministering to those in need. She was a loving wife and homemaker who grew beautiful flowers, canned the bounty from her husband’s garden and cooked delicious meals for her family and friends. Her popular homemade doughnuts were often found at gatherings or in the homes of sick or bereaved neighbors. Her devotion as a mother to her daughters endured from their infancy throughout adulthood. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

Graveside services were conducted 10 a.m. Saturday, September 25, 2021 at the Owens-Tackett-Belcher Cemetery, Haysi, with Pastor Wayne Rogers officiating, Burial followed. Pallbearers were Walter Belcher, Jay Owens, Lewis Owens, Jr., Matthew Owens, Kelly Rose and Danny Sargent. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
