Good news again. There will be a meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 3 at the walking park next to the Clintwood post office. It will be held at 1 p.m. in the picnic arbor. Bring yourself and an item for show and tell. We’ll still have to follow proper safety precautions and distancing. I hope to see everybody there.

The July meeting was a much needed break from the events of last year. It was the first group fellowship we’d had since March of 2020 and it felt good to see friends again. Opening prayer was said by Charlie Fleming. There was discussion about replacing the town sign for McClure honoring Ralph Stanley that was created by Darold Phipps and refurbished by Bud Greene and Clifton Phipps. Members will be notified when a day is established to place the sign. There was also a motion passed to allow the Dickenson County Historical Society to reprint some past Mountain People and Places publications. It was agreed that it would be beneficial to both groups.

I’d like to extend heartfelt thanks to Bud Greene for providing umbrella escorts to the vehicles after the meeting. A number of us appreciated your sacrifice. I’d also like to thank Suzie Shortt for taking the group picture. We’ll have to either get a timer on the camera or some bystander for the next one.

Hopefully everyone can attend the meeting in August.

I can’t wait to see what everyone brings to show.
